Our names are Lusungu (Mercy) and Mwawi (Lucky) Mzale identical twin boys born on June 19, 2013 at Mzimba District Hospital with birth weight of 2.06kg and 2.05 kg respectively. Mum was accompanied by her close friend from the village to the hospital.
There were some complications during labor and delivery hence we were born through caesarian section. Fortunately though, we were born preterm, healthy and very strong. Everyone was happy to welcome us into the world. The day was filled with joy and hope.
The joy was short-lived as the next day my mother's health started deteriorating. Her stomach started to get swollen around the incision area. We were then referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital for advanced care. Upon our arrival, the hospital employees on duty welcomed us well and mum was sent direct to theatre to find out what was causing her stomach to get swollen. We waited patiently for her arrival and after some time, she was brought back to be with us. We were very happy to be with her though we noticed that she was weak. The doctor said she needed blood transfusion. We were sad to see mum suffer a lot for us but God had a plan for her. Few hours later, our dear mum passed away leaving us motherless. It was time of sorrow and shock as we didn't expect to lose mum at this point. May her soul rest in peace.
We were very sad to have lost our loved mum. Few hours of motherly love were gone and we were motherless. We had no hope for the future as we had no one back home to take care of us. Our dad was very unhappy too as he couldn't afford the cost of raising us up as little as we are. He left us in the care of our aunt and mum's close friend while he went to the village to bury our mother. Our mother has gone but God had a plan for us. Friends and well wishers started to look for a place where we could stay for care, support and protection. Social Welfare Office was informed of our situation and they asked Mzuzu Crisis Nursery for our space. Though there was only one room for one baby, they saw our need and took us in with joy, love and happiness. Our hope was restored immediately.
The Nursery employees and DSWO official came to our aunt's place on June 26, 2013 to rescue us. They dressed us up and took us to the Nursery where we were warmly welcomed. We are well cared for and loved at the centre here. Everyone is happy to have us here. There are now three pairs of twins at centre including us. The other two are all happy and healthy. We have all that hope that we will grow up healthy and strong. May God bless everyone here and help us and all the children here to grow into beautiful and handsome toddlers so that we may unite with our dad and siblings at home. Thank you Jesus.
