Margret Phiri

Three children were discharged in the month of March 2013. These children are Joe & Jacob Sakala (twins) and Margret Phiri. All these children come from Mzimba district but from different Traditional Authorities.

Margret was admitted at the Nursery when she was so young and had no proper care from her relatives. She lost her dear mother while her father is nowhere to be seen up to date. She responded very well to the new environment at the centre and was growing very well. She has never experienced any major health problems since she has been at the Nursery. She has also never been admitted to the hospital. She was not fat but was very strong and healthy. It was just a type of her as most of the people from her family are not fat but just strong slim. Everybody loved her at the Nursery and she was so friendly to everyone.

The only challenge we encountered when she was here is that the relatives were not coming forth to visit her. She has been at the center for 18 months but her relatives had only visited her 3 times when they were supposed to visit her once in every month. We thought the relatives had neglected their own child but it wasn’t like that. They had not enough to pay for their transport.

Their absence derailed our future placements planning on her that’s why she stayed longer at the nursery than expected. But in everything we trusted God that things would work out fine for her future.

When we communicated with Mzimba Social Welfare Office on the development, they took no time to visit the home and inform the relatives that the child was old enough to be discharged. They called and we agreed on the date to discharge her. One mother from the village came to the Nursery for familiarization with Margret and it was fine.

On March 12, 2013, we left for Margret’s home weighing 11.5kgs. The relatives and the community were so excited to see their grown up daughter back in the village when they thought that she would die. They praised the Lord and gave thanks to Him. They appreciated our work very much.

They promised to take a good care of her and that the Child Protection Worker would be visiting her twice in a week just to monitor how she would be faring at the village.

The child was born on July 30, 2011 brought to Nursery on August 29, 2011 and discharged on March 12, 2013. She is in TA Mabilabo in Mzimba south. Glory be unto God.
